The role of music in my life
I listen to music pretty often, I think everyday, if not, every other day. I personally don’t have a musician, a band or songs that I listen to regularly. I lean more towards pop and country but I do like other genres like rap and hip hop. Lately I have been listening to a lot of Mac Miller. I think his album Circles is really good and I listen to it while doing homework and studying. I don’t have specific songs but I enjoy listening to older country because when I was younger my dad always listened to it when I was around and I ended up just really liking it. I think some lyrics that inspire me would be “turn your face towards the sun, let the shadows fall behind you.” These lyrics are from the song “Towards The Sun” by Rhianna. Although I don’t like the overall song, I really like this part because I feel like it is telling you to put everything behind you and kinda look to the future and that it is bright because you are facing the sun. When I think of these lyrics I think if it is saying that there are brighter things ahead of you and that you don’t need to worry about the past or let it drag you down. I have negative feelings towards R Kelly because lately I have learned about a lot of stuff she has done and how he has treated women and young girls in the past. This bums me out because I do really like some of his music but I almost feel guilty if I listen to it because of that. I don;t think there are any bands or musicians that I absolutely will not listen to. I don’t know a whole lot about very many musicians but I am sure there’s many more like R Kelly. Like I said, I like his music and I feel bad listening to it but sometimes I still do so I wouldn’t say I absolutely don’t listen to anyone specifically. I know that country music has changed a lot and I think a lot of older people don’t understand it as much because they are used to how it used to be but I actually think they are right about how country isn’t country anymore. When I first hear new music, I often don’t like it or not care for it very much but I tend to usually really like it. When I am driving I refuse to listen to the radio because when I drive I only like to listen to songs I know. If I listen to the radio there tends to be a lot of songs that I do not know and I don’t like that I can’t skip it. Once I start to like a song I will often listen to it over and over and over again in the car and when I’m alone. When I drive my 7 year old nephew around he likes to scroll through my music and pick songs for us to listen to.
