Writing Process

This semester we did a lot of prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. I think that my prewriting always could have been better. I would read the article, summarize it to myself, and make sure I understood it. Once I understood it I would think about how it related to my work. Prewriting helped with papers because it was almost like a head start on it and it had some of my ideas summarized. When drafting, I tried to lay out all my ideas in my head before writing. I have learned that it would be much easier if I write things down on paper before I start so I dont forget anything I was going to say. When I revise and edit my work I try to start by fixing things or adding things in based on the comments that people left on my paper. This way I  make sure I have fixed everything from someone else’s point of view. After that I go back in and I reread to myself to find other things I need to fix. Once I finish that I will go through and make sure I didn’t miss anything. I think these habits worked pretty well for me. I think they allowed me to submit quality work this semester. It is helpful to have feedback and comments from other people because there are many things I would have missed. As the semester went on, I feel like it was easier to get a paper started. In the beginning I struggled a lot to get a paper started and now I find it much easier. Af first I think I tried too hard to just get into it and now have it planned out at all and not have any idea what, overall, I was going to talk about. I think that something I need to change about my habits is that I need to give myself more time to do these things so I am not cramming it all in the night before it is due. When I wait until the last minute I rush to get it done and I don’t do my best. To write a high-quality college-level paper without the help of an instructor I need to change how I do some things such as waiting until the last minute to do it. I also think it would be helpful if I learned how to spot things in my paper that other people would comment on. I think doing this would make revisions easier. It is important to see your own mistakes in your writing and this is something I want to get better at because I would like to be able to find more of my own mistakes in my papers.
