Reading Process

During this semester I learned a lot of new procedures, concepts, skills, resources, and tools that I would use in other articles like Kahneman. Some of the things I learned that I would use are chunking, chunk parts of the article together and to help me while writing my paper. I would use annotations to take notes on the article. This would help me be able to take notes while reading, mark anything interesting or confusing, and it is a good time to look up words or anything I don’t understand. Another skill I’d use is paraphrasing. Paraphrasing is important because it is when you can reflect on what you know. It shows that you understand the ideas of the article enough to say it in your own words. I think that my reading habits helped me a lot this semester because things like annotating and prewriting make it easier to start a paper and get it going. I think that annotating makes me think about different parts of what I am reading and it allows me to stop and figure out terms I might not know. I think that by being able to paraphrase helps me understand what I’m reading because you can’t paraphrase if you don’t know what you are talking about. You paraphrase when you have mostly mastered the concepts or ideas within the article so if you don’t understand it or don’t know what you are talking about then you can’t paraphrase. Summarizing has also helped me with these articles because it gives you a few moments to look back on what you read and reflect on what you said. This can really help when you chunk stuff. Both summarizing and chunking can make it easier to find different parts of the article which I think can be helpful when writing a paper based on an article because our papers also have different chunks. I think all of my reading habits have helped me write papers this semester. Something I need to change about my reading skills is that I waste time and wait until the last minute to do annotations. When I wait to do it I rush and then I don’t do the best I could have on them. If I don’t do my best then I’m not getting all the information that I should have. Another thing I need to work on is prewriting. Prewriting will help me do better on paper so if I do good prewriting it can help me get off to a better start on my paper. My problem is that I also wait to do this so I don’t do it the best I could. I think that I also need to change my mindset about doing these things because I am always very negative about it because I just don’t want to do it but in reality it is only hurting my by doing then when I could be trying my best and get the most out of it.
